Kutna Hora
An old mining town founded in the 13th century, known as the ″Silver Treasure House of the Kingdom″. The Kutna Hora silver mining district, abounding in silver ore, eventually became one of medieval Europe′s largest sources of silver. Already in the late 13th century, one third of Europe′s total production of silver came from Kutna Hora. The Prague groschen, one of Europe′s strongest currencies of the time, began to be minted here. Kutna Hora became the second most important town of the Kingdom of Bohemia.
Up to the present it has kept the character of medieval town and rightfully belongs to the most important UNESCO heritage in the Czech Republic. The most important architectural germs are the Gothic Church of St.Barbara (the patron of miners), the Wallachian Court, which was the site of the royal mint, the Baroque Convent of St.Ursula, the Jesuit college and several patrician buildings.
Kutna Hora is situated 60 km east of Prague. It easily accessible by road or rail.
